The US Energy Information Agency(EIA)predicts in its recent short-term energy outlook report that US electricity consumption will reach a historic high in the next two years.It is expected that the electricity consumption will reach 4.096 trillion kilowatt hours in 2024 and further increase to 4.125 trillion kilowatt hours in 2025.By comparison,the electricity consumption in 2023 was 4 trillion kilowatt hours,and in 2022 it was 4.067 trillion kilowatt hours.
According to an analysis by the US Energy Information Agency,as more and more households and businesses choose to use electricity instead of fossil fuels for heating and transportation,household electricity consumption will reach 1.506 trillion kilowatt hours,commercial electricity consumption will reach 1.389 trillion kilowatt hours,and industrial electricity consumption will reach 1.047 trillion kilowatt hours in 2024.
In addition,the report predicts that the share of gas-fired power generation in the United States will be 42%in 2024 and 41%in 2025;The share of coal-fired power generation will decrease from 17%in 2023 to 15%in 2024 and 14%in 2025;The share of renewable energy generation will increase from 21%in 2023 to 24%in 2024 and 25%in 2025;The share of nuclear power will be 19%in both 2024 and 2025.
