Gazprom recently broadcasted content commemorating the 5th anniversary of the start of the Siberian Power natural gas pipeline supplying gas to China at the”Russia”international exhibition and forum.Over the past five years, the amount of natural gas exported to China through this pipeline has been continuously increasing. As the first natural gas pipeline between the two countries, the”Power of Siberia”natural gas pipeline has become a clear witness to the mutual benefit of energy cooperation between the two countries.
Natural gas is a key area of energy cooperation between China and Russia, and natural gas trade between the two countries has steadily increased in recent years.According to data, from 2020 to 2022,China was supplied with 4.1 billion cubic meters,10.4 billion cubic meters, and 15.4 billion cubic meters of natural gas through the East Siberian Power natural gas pipeline.According to the plan, the gas transmission capacity of the pipeline will reach 38 billion cubic meters by 2025.
Over the past year, energy cooperation between China and Russia, represented by natural gas,has shown outstanding characteristics.
On the one hand, there has been an improvement in quantity.Gazprom told Economic Daily reporters that according to statistical data, the natural gas supply to China increased by 46.6%year-on-year in the first three quarters of this year.At present, the daily gas supply has exceeded the contracted quantity.Similarly, this year,Gazprom signed an Additional Agreement to the Eastern Gas Purchase and Sales Agreement with China National Petroleum Corporation.According to the agreement,Russia will increase its natural gas supply to China by the end of 2023.
On the other hand, there is a guarantee of quality. The key to energy supply is stability. At present,Russia’s energy exports to China continue to have stable characteristics, maintaining a stable, continuous, and uninterrupted energy supply.Gazprom stated that it continues to ensure the export of natural gas to China through the Siberian Power natural gas pipeline.Alexei Miller,President of Gazprom, stated that the company has the necessary resources, technology, and capabilities to provide reliable and effective clean energy for China’s economic growth.
Under the strategic guidance of the two heads of state, pragmatic cooperation between China and Russia has continuously yielded fruitful results, among which energy cooperation between the two sides has continuously played a”ballast stone”role, allowing the giant ship of China Russia cooperation to steadily move forward.
In March this year,China and Russia signed two strategic documents, and energy cooperation remains a key focus.Among them, the Joint Statement of the People’s Republic of China and the Russian Federation on Deepening the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership for the New Era stated that the two sides will build a closer energy cooperation partnership, support their enterprises in promoting energy cooperation projects such as oil and gas, coal, electricity, and nuclear energy, and promote the implementation of initiatives that help reduce greenhouse gas emissions, including the use of low emission and renewable energy.Promote global energy transformation. The two documents provide solid political guarantees for the two countries to further deepen energy cooperation and achieve mutual benefit and win-win results.
The energy cooperation between China and Russia is becoming increasingly close. At present, both sides are discussing the construction of the”Siberian Power 2″pipeline;Gazprom plans to export liquefied natural gas to China via the Arctic route, and in the future,Gazprom is expected to become China’s largest natural gas supplier.Russian Deputy Prime Minister Novak stated that in the future,Russia’s pipeline natural gas supply to China may increase to 100 billion cubic meters per year.
From an economic development perspective,Gazprom is a leading international natural gas reserve, production, and supplier, while China is a potential world’s largest natural gas consumption market.Gazprom stated that in the long run, global natural gas demand will continue to grow, mainly driven by China, and the potential for mutually beneficial and complementary energy cooperation between the two countries remains enormous.
