The Malaysian Ministry of Energy and Water Transition(Petra)stated that over 667 net metering consumers have installed solar systems and received rebates from the country’s People’s Solar Energy Incentive Scheme(SolaRIS)implemented since April.
Petra stated that the majority of beneficiaries so far have received up to RM4000(USD 875.61)under the program.
After Malaysian politician Mohd Hasbie Muda inquired about the latest progress of the plan and whether it could help the government achieve its renewable energy goals, the government released the figure.
According to the department’s response,SolaRIS will”increase domestic demand for solar installations and help achieve the goal of increasing renewable energy installed capacity in accordance with the national energy transition roadmap.
The department added that since the launch of SolaRIS,the number of applications for Malaysia’s net metering program NEM Rakyat has increased from approximately 100 per day to 150 per day.
When SolaRIS was opened,Malaysian authorities stated that applications would remain open until the end of this year, and allocation would be determined on a first come, first served basis.
The Solar PETRA initiative launched in May this year is a plan to incentivize citizens and private institutions to adopt solar energy.
Malaysia also supports the development of industrial scale solar energy, announcing the fifth round of large-scale solar bidding earlier this year, releasing up to 2GW for rooftop, ground and floating solar projects.
