According to the Brazilian news agency, the latest data released by the Brazilian Solar Photovoltaic Association(Absolar)shows that Brazil’s installed solar power capacity has exceeded 55 gigawatts(GW),accounting for 22.2%of the country’s electricity structure and becoming the second largest source of energy after hydropower.
In terms of power generation system scale, self owned solar photovoltaic energy produced through small and medium-sized systems leads with an installed capacity of 37.6 gigawatts.Large solar power plants account for 17.6 gigawatts.
The rapid development of solar energy has reduced Brazil’s carbon dioxide emissions by approximately 66.6 million tons. From January to March 2025 alone,Brazil added over 147000 photovoltaic systems nationwide, providing electricity to 228700 households.Since 2012,the industry has attracted over 251.1 billion Brazilian reals in investment, created over 1.6 million green jobs, and contributed 78 billion Brazilian reals in tax revenue to the government.
More than 5500 cities in Brazil have installed distributed photovoltaic systems, and all states have large centralized solar power stations.Among the users of self luminous photovoltaic power generation, residential areas account for the highest proportion, reaching 69.2%,while commercial and rural properties account for 18.4%and 9.9%respectively.
Among them,Minas Gerais state ranks among the top in Brazil in terms of solar power generation, with 900000 households having installed photovoltaic systems.Next are the states of São Paulo and Rio Grande do Sul,with 756000 and 468000 households respectively.
The relevant person in charge of the Brazilian Solar Photovoltaic Association stated that with the increasing global attention to renewable energy,Brazil’s solar energy industry is becoming an important pillar of the country’s energy transition and will also receive more attention in the global green energy market.
